SMART Connect was established in 2016 as a student led pilot project to incorporate smallholder farmers into value chains through a mobile-web application. This was after receiving a research grant awarded by Bindura University Vice Chancellor's creativity and innovation grant for students 2016. In 2017 SMART Connect evolved into an organization which offers a wide range of services in order to facilitate agricultural development in addition to connecting farmers to markets. These other services include projects implementation and management, research consultancy, capacity building and agribusiness training services. However it is important to note that, the core business of SMART Connect is to improve the livelihoods of farmers at the bottom of the pyramid through connecting them to markets and other agribusiness entities.
